Postmodernism

Postmodernism

Post modern films often contain the following characteristics:

  • Challenges genre conventions and could be a mixture of many genres
Lego movie is fantasy, action, adventure, comedy, romance and sic fi instead of conforming to just one. This is a hybrid and appeals to a mass audience, rather than a neish audience. iT ALSO GIVES MORE IDEAS FOR A SEQUEL.

  • Challenge typical gender roles
Emmet (the hero) is an average person, Wildstyle (female) is the strongest of the group, an emo and a women and batman is not as heroic as he is in other films.

  • Pastiche:imitate/has similarities with other stories, films, books and has a humorous take on troubles in society/culture.
Links to Matrix with a similar storyline, brings in characters from other stories (batman) and gives the message that imagination is important to have in society and you don't have to conform to the rules and be different.

  • Hyper-reality:Makes the audience aware that they are watching a movie and that is is not real, e.g. breaking the fourth wall like deadpan.
The lego movie is the lego worlds in animation with our real life world.
